Jaguar XE and XF both achieve five star rating from Euro NCAP
Amongst Jaguar's strengths is a reputation for excellent build quality, and safety agency Euro NCAP has reinforced this with its latest round of tests.
Both of Jaguar's new saloon models, the new Jaguar XE and latest generation of Jaguar XF, have been awarded the maximum five star rating.
The XE and XF are both developed from Jaguar’s new Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, a light but stiff and strong body structure that helps to deliver exceptional occupant protection. In fact both cars scored 92% for adult occupant protection, with the XE scoring 82% and the XF scoring 84% for child occupant safety. The XF performed particularly well in the most violent side-impact pole test, scoring full marks with good protection, but neither car had any area for concern in the crash testing component.
Pedestrian safety is also well-rated, with 80% for the XF and 81% for the XE. The cars are equipped with active bonnets that, in the event of an impact with pedestrians, pop up into a higher position to provide cushioning and prevent the hard structures under the bonnet from causing harm.
Alongside the crash protection, the XE and XF also have a range of active safety systems to help prevent a collision from even occurring. A standard fit Autonomous Emergency Braking system uses a stereo camera to detect vehicles which could pose a threat of collision, gives the driver visual and audible warnings and, if the driver does not react to an imminent collision, automatically apply the brakes.
There's also a wide range of additional driver assistance systems that helped the XE and XF to safety assist scores of 82% and 83% respectively. Both models offer Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Closing Vehicle Sensing, Reverse Traffic Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Cruise Control.
By achieving more than 80% in every category, the XE and XF are not only amongst the safest cars in their respective classes but also join the ranks of the safest cars on sale today.
