The electrification of the car is a concept that is becoming more and more prevalent as the technology improves and advances.
Following its investment into Formula E, Jaguar wants to lead the way in terms of premium electric vehicles and bringing the concept of such cars into everyday life.
To flagship the Jaguar charge into the world of electric-powered vehicles, it unveiled the Jaguar I-PACE; a forward-looking, electric SUV that combines many different styles to create one complete package.
With dynamic styling and a smart interior package, the use of battery power has aided the design of the I-PACE, as with the lack of a bulky engine up front and placing the bank of Lithium-ion battery along the axle, it creates much more space for passengers and storage.
To make sure mobility isn't compromised, the I-PACE comes with rapid charging, meaning that even on a regular 50kw direct current charging network, the battery can be charged in just over two hours, giving over 220 miles of range.
With the pure electric power, the application is instantaneous, and with the electric motor producing 394bhp, the I-PACE also produces 700Nm of torque – the same amount as the fastest conventionally powered Jaguar we currently make, the F-TYPE SVR – which is delivered through the all-wheel drive system.
Unveiled in the flesh before the Los Angeles Motor Show, the I-PACE's reveal was the first to be performed over virtual reality, allowing journalists from around the world to 'sit in the vehicle' using the HTC Vive virtual reality headset and get a sense of the scale of the car.
The I-PACE is at the cutting edge of car technology and is due to be on the road from 2018. Prospective customers can register their interest now on the main Jaguar website, and if you want any more details on the next step in Jaguar’s illustrious history, contact your nearest H.A.Fox Jaguar Centre.
