Sir David Brailsford on the Jaguar XE
World-renowned cycling strategist, Sir David Brailsford has given his expert opinion on the new Jaguar XE sports saloon.
The man behind the incredibly successful Team GB and Team Sky cycling teams explains, in a series of short films, how the XE’s aerodynamic shape makes it such a joy to drive.
“By looking for every last possible improvement on every single element, Jaguar’s engineers are able to deliver world class performance. As an innovation partner of Team Sky, it is really encouraging to see Jaguar sharing our philosophy and achieving a great result.” Brailsford explained.
The Jaguar XE is new from the ground up - giving its designers and engineers the ability to focus on every aspect of its technical specification down to the smallest detail.
In this new film, which may be viewed and shared by visiting: jaguar.com/jaguar-range/xe/experience-xe/extreme.html Sir David Brailsford meets with Jaguar engineer Jon Darlington to discuss the technical strategy for the XE, and to experience Jaguar’s new sports saloon in action.
Jon Darlington said: “Our engineering team has produced a cutting-edge product with the Jaguar XE by introducing aluminium-intensive architecture and all-new Ingenium engines. By adopting similar design principles to Team Sky, we made even more improvements.”
Adding, “This optimum combination makes the XE compact, light and stiff – essential elements in achieving brilliant dynamic performance. It is also the most efficient and aerodynamic Jaguar ever.”
The XE S model features the same supercharged 3.0-litre V6 used in the Jaguar F-Type, capable of putting out 335bhp and 450Nm of torque.
An eight-speed automatic gearbox complete with paddle shift controls will propel the driver from 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds and keep them going all the way to an electronically limited 155mph top speed. Interior styling is full of the quality traditional Jaguar touches you would expect and features an eight-inch high-definition multimedia touchscreen built into the central console.
This new system introduces super connectivity with apps, mobile phones, voice control and Bluetooth. It is now even possible to start the XE via smartphone, set climate control and other in-car functions. On sale now from £26,995 - deliveries are set to begin in May 2015.
